Welcome to the Venus Flytrap!
The Venus Flytrap is a site to educate you on various aspects of the web/internet.
Why the Venus Flytrap? The Venus Flytrap is a plant that lures insects and bugs to itself to feed on its body, only to suck life out and eventually kill the fly or bug. The same can be said for the internet, people browse the internet thinking they are acquiring information, however, the truth as playwright Richard Foreman says is that "we risk turning into pancake people, spread wide and thin as we connect with that vast network of information accessed by the mere touch of a button.” (Atlantic Magazine, 2008).
How is the website designed? I have used the "Lilly" font for both the site and paragraph title, and the "Radiohead" font for the body of the paragraph. The lilly font is bold and clear, making it easier to identify each new paragraph. The radiohead is a "handwriting" font meant to signify the degrading of the human handwriting as we continue to rely on the computer/laptop. I have also included a picture of the venus flytrap, to help viewers identify better with the site. The site's layout is that of a booklet with a dog-eared page, while the banner is that of three kids in front of a laptop, showing that even kids are using paper less and relying more on the computer.
I have chosen to use Weebly as the website hosting service because it's very quick and easy to use in setting up a website, with a vast array of design and layout options to select from.
The website's layout was designed to reflect not just my belief on the internet but the contents of the website. More articles and related polls and surveys will be posted as well as a link to my blog. For more information of if you have further questions, please fill out the form at the bottom of the page.
